Central bank hunts for bright young economists
future stars Philip Mulvey, Andrea Elebert, Rachel O'Grady and Andrew Kilgallen are all smiles at the launch of the Central Bank's Generation Euro Students' Award.
The award aims to find Ireland's brightest young economic minds, asking secondary school students to put themselves in the shoes of the ECB's Governing Council.
Teams of four transition year students, plus a teacher acting as a mentor, will be asked to come up with an appropriate interest rate for the Eurozone.
Over the course of three rounds including an online quiz, a group essay and a presentation to a panel of senior economists at the Central Bank, the students will compete to be crowned national champions.
The winners will represent Ireland at a series of events at the ECB in Frankfurt, where they'll meet ECB president Mario Draghi and the other winners from across Europe.
To register, teams should visit the competition website www.generationeuro.ie before the closing date of December 1, 2014.
