A MAN found with 44 cannabis plants in his flat told gardai that they were part of a scheme to make medical oil for cancer patients.
Mauritian national Premduth Purlackee was caught with plants valued at €17,600 as well as €27,240 worth of cannabis herb.
After initially giving "half- baked excuses", he admitted to gardai that he was growing it and selling it to pay for drugs he had received on credit.
Purlackee (30), of Parnell Street and Rathgar Avenue, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Judge Martin Nolan jailed him for six-and-a-half years.
