His latest attack was last Tuesday night near Baggot Street, off St Stephen's Green. He singled out a woman who recognised him from a previous incident of a similar nature and attempted to assault her.
The victim immediately moved to alert the driver, who would not let the man in question leave until the gardai arrived at the scene.
He is now expected to face a series of charges in relation to assaults that he has carried out over a sustained period since January of 2009.
A source said the woman who was at the centre of the latest incident gave a statement this week and other victims who have previously made statements against him will be contacted again over the coming days.
The man has previously attacked some of his victims more than once, after recognising them from previous encounters.
He is understood to have admitted in part to some of the attacks that he has carried out, and detectives will continue to quiz him over the next few days as they draw together the various different reports and statements made against him over the past 24 months.
Gardai had been unsuccessful in tracking down the man in question, as he would flee the scene before his victim could alert the driver or officers in time.
The man is currently being held under a lesser "holding" offence while officers draw together information and evidence on the previous acts carried out by him.
