There is good news for sun-seekers, with temperatures set to hit 17C in the capital this weekend.

After washout weather and a bitter cold snap during the start of the year, the mercury is expected to reach the high teens in the coming days.

In further good news, you can probably leave your umbrella at home, as it is going to be mostly dry here until the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.

"All areas on Saturday will have breaks in clouds allowing for sunshine, with highs topping 17C," said Met Eireann forecaster Pat Clarke.

"It will cool a little on Sunday with the odd bit of rain and drizzle, but temperatures will drop a little to the low teens."

Unusual

He added it was "unusual for this time of year" to have so little rain but "dry weather will continue into next week".

John Eagleton, also a Met Eireann forecaster, said: "There's going to be very little rainfall for the rest of the week, this will continue throughout the weekend and even into next week.

"Basically until Easter Saturday we aren't expecting there to be much rain."

There will be some rain over the northern half of the country on Wednesday but it will still be mostly dry in the south.

The best weather is expected to be in the midlands.
