Boy gets €25k after fall from scaffolding

A 12-YEAR-old boy who was hurt after he fell 12 feet to the ground from scaffolding was yesterday awarded €25,000 in the Circuit Civil Court.

Barrister James O'Donnell told the court that on June 22, 2012, Alex Sheridan was playing with friends near the Hardwicke Street, Dublin, apartment of his mother, Vicky Sheridan.

Alex and his friends had climbed onto a wheelie bin, over an eight-foot barrier and into a building site at Greenville Street Flats. They scaled a ladder to the scaffolding, where Alex fell. He required hospital treatment for cuts and abrasions.

Through his mother, Alex sued Dublin City Council; Townlink Construction Ltd, of Greenhills Business Park, Tallaght, and also Netwatch Ireland Ltd, of Athy Road, Carlow, Co Carlow, claiming they had failed to ensure that children would not enter the site.

The judge approved a €25,000 settlement offer.
