Body in car was former patient
A woman whose body was found in a burnt out car was believed to be a former psychiatric patient. Gardai are not treating the incident at Eadestown, Kildare, as suspicious.
The woman was found in a vehicle in a car park in the Kildare village at approximately 11.30am on Friday.
The woman was in her 50s and had been living in the area. Gardai have appealed to anyone who may have been in the area at the time to come forward.
SNOWDEN DAD TO VISIT RUSSIA
The father of US National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden has applied for a travel visa to Russia and hopes to be able to visit his son next week.
Lon Snowden, of Allentown, Pennsylvania, has said he's been unable to speak directly to his son since Edward publicly disclosed details of NSA's surveillance programmes and received asylum in Russia.
Lon Snowden's lawyer, Bruce Fein, says the elder Snowden wants to ensure that his son understands his legal situation in the US, where he has been charged in federal court with violations of the Espionage Act.
HEART ATTACK AT TOP OF POLE
AN Eircom worker is being treated in hospital after suffering what is believed to be a heart attack while carrying out work at a height. The incident happened yesterday on Rogers Lane off Baggot Street at around 10.30am.
The man collapsed while working at the top of a telecommunications pole. His safety equipment prevented him from falling.
The Heath and Safety Authority and Eircom have both launched investigations.
ICE CREAM MEN IN SEA RESCUE
Three people had to be rescued when a boat selling ice cream capsized.
The Lolly Roger is believed to have overturned when a freezer rolled while on board. A mayday call was made to coastguards when a motor cruiser spotted the capsized vessel and three-man crew in water off Hengistbury Head in Dorset, England.
The cruiser, Badgers Retreat, picked up the three people. The three casualties, a woman and two men, were not seriously injured.
