Blathnaid Treacy hopes to Spin herself a new radio gig on RTE

Children's TV presenter Blathnaid Treacy is hoping her stint on Spin 103.8 will help earn her a top radio gig on RTE's 2fm.

And the TwoTube presenter (26) said she loves being on the airwaves as she can ditch the make-up and glamorous clothes.

RTE's Blathnaid has joined DJ Dara Quilty on the Zoo Crew on its evening slot during the summer months as she learns all the tricks of the trade.

Welcoming

"The whole crowd are really sound, everyone was very welcoming and the lads have the exact same sense of humour as me. I've loads of brothers so we're constantly having the craic," she told the Herald.

"Radio is a little bit more relaxed than TV. You don't have to worry about hair and make-up, there's no costume changes and you can go in wearing whatever you want. With TV, all that stuff is out of your hands.

"I seem to have hit the ground running which is great and haven't made any major mistakes - I've hit the wrong button a few times but that's about it."

Blathnaid said that she would love to eventually front her own music and chat show on 2fm, which has come in for a massive shake-up with station boss Dan Healy.

"There's no talk of that at the moment but maybe in the future that would be brilliant. I'd love to do a fun music show," Blathnaid continued.

"RTE is definitely taking more chances which is nice because a lot of people wouldn't think that about RTE. But they're bringing in lots of fresh talent."

The former Glenroe child star had three weeks off after TwoTube but she admits that she got restless during her time off and is glad to be back at work.

A self-confessed iPhone addict, Blathnaid helped to launch Meteor's new Simply Unlimited plan in Dublin yesterday.
