A garda operation in Blanchardstown is attempting to infiltrate organised burglary gangs in the area.

The gangs are operating in groups of up to about six.

Burglaries in the area were up 25pc in 2014, compared with 2013.

Fianna Fail councillor Jack Chambers told the Herald that the burglaries are happening "universally" across Blanchardstown.

Criminals are not being deterred by home security systems and have ripped alarms off the walls of houses or are just robbing houses undeterred by the sound of the alarm going off.

Gardai have linked the close proximity of the M50 as a contributing factor to the rise in burglaries.

A new community text alert system is being rolled out across Dublin 15 as a result of the spike in crime.
