I came, I saw, I conkered

The 49th World Conker Championships are taking place in a field near Peterborough in England.

Entrants from 15 countries turned up, said organiser St John Burkett, who added that in countries where there were horse chestnut trees, such as Canada, it was easy enough to find the right tools.

However, competitors in other far flung climes had been known to use macadamia nuts or sea shells to get their eye in ahead of the event.
