BRENDAN O'Carroll stepped in to save the day when a young Irishman and his girlfriend were robbed while on a J1 in Orlando.

Dylan Hennessey (22), from Bray, Co Wicklow, was robbed of his passport, ID, credit cards and cash.

But after a desperate call from his mother to Joe Duffy's Liveline, he was promised help from comic Brendan.

Dylan's distraught mother, Fiona, told the Herald of her fears when he called to say he and girlfriend Aoife Lynch had been robbed.

"I didn't know what to do for him, they'd taken everything - his phone, money, everything," she said.

Dylan chased after the thieves and managed to get hold of one of the bags that had his clothes inside.

His mother called Liveline, which Brendan was listening to. The Mrs Brown's Boys star rang in and offered to help, saying a friend of his in Orlando would be with the couple "within the hour".

Brendan's friend met Dylan and Aoife and gave them €500.

They are now awaiting passport replacements from the Irish embassy, and have received more than €1,000 in donations.

An Irishman also offered them an apartment to stay in for the week.

"It puts your faith back in humanity," Dylan's dad Jimmy said.

Brendan told the Herald he offered to help "as any Irish person would do for another Irish person".
