'Ban hotel single fee'
HOTEL single supplements are discouraging retired people to take leisure breaks in Ireland.
Active Retirement Ireland (ARI) called for the charge for single-room occupancy to be abolished for older people to boost the industry.
A total of 96pc of hotels reviewed admitted to charging the additional fee.
"For a widow or widower reliant on a State pension, this can be a real inhibitor to taking part in a leisure break," said Maureen Kavanagh (above), Chief Executive of ARI.
