Bad weather ups holiday demand

TRAVEL

The travel industry is reporting a surge in bookings as people scurry to escape the unseasonable weather.

Paul Hackett, chief of Clickandgo.com, said rain brings a spike in demand.

"There is always a very strong late booking demand in May and June with over 60pc of all bookings in May for travel in May and June, but in the past few weeks, we have seen a real spike in holiday bookings. We are up about 20pc to 25pc over the same period in 2014. Phone calls and site visits are also well up."
