Easter came early for the children of Temple Street Hospital when a local courier company made a special delivery of a chocolate egg for every patient.

Pony Express staff trotted around the wards yesterday lifting the spirits of the kids who will be spending the holidays there instead of at home.

"This year instead of giving Easter eggs to our clients, we decided to put a smile on a few little faces and donate eggs to all the children at Temple Street Hospital," said Pony Express's Audrey Browne.

"The incredible work they do at Temple Street is very close to our hearts.

"Easter is such a special time for kids so we are hoping to bring a little bit of joy to them," Audrey added.

Annette Small of Temple Street Hospital said the delivery was a lovely gesture and really made a difference to the childrens' happiness.

"We're very lucky to have people that think of the kids that aren't going to be at home and who try to ensure that they don't miss out," she told the Herald.

"Pony Express have made a huge difference to the children. Some of them are only over major surgery and you can see the difference in their attitude and the smiles on their faces.

"A little really does go a long way."

The courier company staff brought eggs to all the children, handing out the treats on the wards.

"Some of the kids were crying before we arrived but when they saw the balloons and we gave them bunny ears they just cheered up straight away," said Audrey. "It was very uplifting to see that we could make such a difference."
