It's been 10 years since Aoibhinn Ni Shuilleabhain was crowned the Rose of Tralee and she's set to reunite with her fellow Roses this weekend.

The Mayo native is one of the best-known winners, having developed a career in the media and completing a doctorate in maths from TCD.

"There's loads of girls from 2005 who are coming back from America with their kids and their husbands, so it's going to a massive reunion of all the escorts and Roses.

Poise

"It'll be so nice to catch up with everyone, we really had the best time," she added.

Aoibhinn is the picture of poise now, but she admits she had never worn high heels before taking to the Dome stage in Tralee.

"I lived in my Doc Martens when I was in secondary school. I had blue hair for a while, red hair - we went to Pearl Jam and Metallica concerts," she told Breakfast Republic on 2fm.

"I didn't get rid of my Docs until I went to Tralee. It was my first time wearing heels," she added.

"I was like 'How can I walk in these, this is crazy'."

The 32-year-old is a maths lecturer in UCD and admits she does get "nervous" before classes.

"It's like performing, so you always get a bit nervous when you have a new class or a new set of students," she said.

"I love what I do because I want to help everybody learn maths by graduating those qualified maths teachers."
