Andy Warhol sketch of music legends up for Irish auction
An Andy Warhol screenprint sketch of music legends Aretha Franklin and Keith Richards brings a funky touch to an Irish art auction.
It is Item No.1 in the first ever online-only auction to be conducted by Dublin auctioneers Whyte's.
The online bidding will take place tomorrow at 6pm.
"Andy Warhol is a household name who spearheaded the pop movement in art," said Adelle Hughes of the Molesworth Street auction house. "It should appeal to art lovers and music lovers alike."
The screenprint has a guiding price of between €2,000 and €3,000.
The artwork was created for Aretha Franklin's 1986 cover of The Rolling Stone's hit Jumpin' Jack Flash, but was never used.
"It's an opportunity to acquire a work by a well-known artist. His works are a good seller here," said Ms Hughes.
Among the eclectic mix of lots are works by leading Irish artists, including Louis le Brocquy and Robert Ballagh.
Other works include a 1940s lithograph by William Scott and works by contemporary artists Michael Farrell, James Hanley, and Charles Lamb.
Music fans may decide to re-visit the Whyte's website for details of an auction of rock, pop, and movie memorabilia to take place on March 28.
