All bets are on for tax purposes

Gambling websites based in or outside Ireland must now register with tax authorities here in order to take bets from Irish customers, after long delayed legislation finally came into force.

From August 1 this year a 1pc levy that is currently charged on bets laid in betting shops and at race tracks will be extended to bets made online or over the phone.

In order to collect the new tax websites that take bets from customers in Ireland will have to be licensed with the Revenue Commissioners.
