Adi Roche's new mission

Adi Roche has been a driving force in helping the children of Chernobyl since disaster struck nearly 30 years ago.

When she speaks people take notice, because she speaks with authority.

She is going to meet the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon tomorrow, and will brief him on the difficulties being experienced by an Irish-funded "flying doctors" mission in eastern Ukraine.

Many of the children there would die before they reached the age of three if it were not for the medical intervention they receive.

The former presidential candidate will highlight the work of the cardiac missions programme helping to save the lives of children with heart defects in the war-torn region.

Young lives hang in the balance, and Adi Roche deserves great credit for her ongoing and unrelenting work in helping save special needs and sick children in Belarus and the Ukraine.
