Victoria Smurfit says entrepreneurs are integral to the economy

Victoria Smurfit will co-present tonight's EY Entrepreneur of the Year Awards in Dublin.

The Once Upon A Time actress, who is currently based in LA with her three children, said she was delighted to be coming home to present the awards with Storyful founder Mark Little.

Given her famous family's history in business, it's a perfect fit for the 42-year-old.

"Entrepreneurship is something that is very close to my heart, and I have huge admiration for those who develop an idea to establish a new business or service," she said.

"Entrepreneurs are integral to the Irish economy - they create direct and indirect employment and support local commerce.

"I am really looking forward to Thursday night, and I wish all the finalists the very best of luck."

Thriller

Victoria recently got into the business side of things herself when she produced and starred in a gory thriller called Bait.

"For some projects you do you're not paid a fortune - it's not going to keep you for ever, so you need to keep the wheels turning," she said.

"I enjoy writing, I enjoy producing and you get to the point where you say, 'Actually, I do know a lot about this business. I've been around it long enough'.

"I always set out to be a working actor, not a star. Stars burn out fast."

The EY Awards will be broadcast on UTV Ireland at 10.30pm tonight.
