8am Dart is busiest train in the country
THE busiest train in the country is once again the 8am Dart service from Greystones to Malahide, according to a new report.
The National Transport Authority (NTA) yesterday published its heavy rail census for 2014 providing information on passenger numbers on a typical day.
For the third year running, the busiest train in the country was carrying 1,405 passengers on the service from Greystones to Malahide.
The busiest section on this service was between Booterstown and Sydney Parade, when 923 passengers were on board.
The next most heavily loaded train was the 7.12am commuter service from Drogheda to Bray, which carried 865 passengers between Howth Junction and Connolly.
Connolly, Pearse, Heuston and Tara continue to be the busiest stations in the country.
Kent station in Cork city was the only station outside of the Dublin region to feature in the top 10 busiest.
Blackrock station re-entered the top 10, having been replaced by Maynooth in 2013.
Just over 55,000 journeys were made on the Dart during census day last November 13, around 900 fewer than in 2013.
