RAINCOATS and brollies – along with trainers – will be required as almost 40,000 women do their bit for charity in the annual VHI Women’s Mini-Marathon today.

The 10km race – the largest female-only event of its kind in the world – starts at 2pm from Baggot Street, and the weather’s set to be wet and windy.

“Winds will have mean speeds of 95-110km per hour and there will be  heavy rain,” Met Eireann’s Joanna Donnelly told the Herald.

“We have two weather warnings in operation, it’s not a storm but it’s an active and rapidly developing depression out in the mid-Atlantic,” she warned.

The route takes in the RDS, UCD and RTE before finishing by Fitzwilliam Square. Road closures will be in place.
