35 new jobs to boost midlands

A total of 20 new jobs are to be created in a €3m expansion at Condron Concrete Works in Tullamore, Co Offaly, while a new department store is to create up to 15 jobs in Co Longford.

The Offaly investment will finance the development of a plastic pipe-making facility at the family-owned company.

The company, which already employs over 50 people, is expected to start recruiting immediately for the new positions.

Those applying for the new jobs don't have to have any skills specific to manufacturing plastic piping as training will be given.

"People are going to plastic for smaller diameter pipes because they're quicker to put in. So we're diversifying. It's a good news story for Tullamore," managing director John Condron said.

In Co Longford, Shaws Department Store is to create up to 15 full and part-time jobs with the opening of a new store.

The store is expected to open on October 24, taking the place of an old Centra store which closed earlier this year.
