13 arrests now made in murder probe
The arrests of three men by gardai investigating the savage murder of a 21-year-old man in west Dublin in 2013 brings to 13 the number of people who have been detained as part of the probe.
Two men in their 20s and one in his 30s were arrested yesterday in the capital as the net continues to close on the mob responsible for the shooting.
Last week a man and woman were arrested as part of the investigation before being released without charge. Sources said last night that gardai are "hopeful" of getting charges in the case.
The intended target of Dean Johnson's murderers was a notorious hitman who is in custody for other serious offences.
Gardai suspect that this hitman then killed Clondalkin criminal, 39-year-old Jason Carroll less than a week later.
He is believed to have targeted Carroll because he blamed him for mastermind- ing the Johnson shooting in which he had been the intended target.
He is under threat from a number of different crime groups across the capital because of his involvement in serious organised crime.
Last year, the Herald revealed that he was going around boasting to his associates about his plans to kill four of his gangster rivals on the same night in a sick plot that echoes a scene from the cult TV show Breaking Bad.
