Man accused of raping mum found in Malta

GARDAI have tracked down a man who allegedly raped his own mother on Mother's Day last year.
A intensive search led detectives to Malta, where he has been hiding since March 2.
Gardai hope to extradite the man, described as a highly dangerous criminal.
As first reported in the Herald, the 44-year-old man is also the chief suspect for a number of serious assaults on elderly woman across Dublin.

The alleged rapist skipped bail after being charged with serious offences against his mother.
It is claimed that he seriously sexually assaulted his mum on two separate occasions on the night of March 2 last.
He has a previous conviction for a sexual assault in Britain and garda sources say that he is one of the most heinous and unstable criminals they have come across.
His mother, who has a medical condition, is in her late 60s and was left extremely traumatised by the attack. She has not been able to live on her own since March.
The man was arrested a short time after the incident but fled while on bail.

Gardai mounted a serious operation across the city amid fears that he could strike again.
They originally suspected that he had escaped to Britain but they have now received intelligence information suggesting that he is living on the Mediterranean island of Malta.
A number of victims, some aged in their 80s, were left seriously traumatised after being robbed and attacked at home.
At the time, a source close to the investigation told the Herald: "A number of women pensioners have been assaulted in their homes during burglaries and we are very anxious to find this man who has a serious track record of violence."
