Man accused of €5k social welfare fraud
Saturday November 07 2009
THIS is the man who has been charged with defrauding more than €5,000 from the State after he falsely collected social welfare for over six months.
Anatoliy Korostylenko (37) is also alleged to have been caught with a false passport and a false driving licence at the Social Welfare Office in Blanchardstown.
He is facing trial by judge and jury in the Circuit Court after the charges were deemed too serious for the District Court.
Korostylenko, of Littlepace Woods, Littlepace Paddock, Clonee, was charged before Blanchardstown District Court with 28 counts of theft from the Social Welfare Office, Snugborough.
Gardai said Korostylenko was charged with the new charges before the court. He was handed a true copy of each charge sheet, and he made no reply after caution.
He has also been charged with possession of a false Latvian driving licence and a false Lithuanian passport in the name of "Kestutis Rumsa" at the Snugborough Social Welfare Office on May 20.
The court heard that the DPP has directed trial on indictment in relation to the charges.
Sergeant Damien Galligan said it's alleged that Korostylenko, who is originally from the Ukraine, defrauded the Department of Social Welfare of €5,232, as he falsely collected social welfare of €184.80 for 19 weeks, and €191.30 for nine weeks.
The alleged incidents took place every fortnight between March 22 last year and May 6 this year.
Judge Coughlan extended bail to the new sheets and remanded Korostylenko on continuing bail to a date in December to allow for the preparation of the book of evidence.
