A YOUNG man is facing trial on a charge of possession of hundreds of images of child pornography.

Graeme Sullivan (25) appeared in Blanchardstown District Court accused of having 984 child pornographic images at his home.

He had a book of evidence served on him and was remanded on continuing bail.

Sullivan, of Huntstown Rise, Mulhuddart, Dublin, is charged with the alleged offence on September 10, 2007. The offence is under the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act 1998.

State solicitor Aisling Kelly told the court there was one charge in the book of evidence, which had been served on the accused by the prosecuting garda.

bail

The DPP was consenting to Mr Sullivan being returned for trial to the present sittings of Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

He was sent forward on existing bail of €300, with no requirement by the State for an independent surety.

Judge Patrick McMahon gave the accused the formal warning to notify the prosecution of any alibi witnesses within 14 days.

The accused, wearing a dark suit, sat at the back of the packed courthouse until his case was called.

During the brief hearing, he addressed the court only to confirm his signature on the bail bond and to tell the judge he understood the alibi notice requirement.

After signing the new bail bond, he left the court.
