Simon Cowell's lavish 50th birthday bash is estimated to have cost a whopping €1.5m according to pop supremo Louis Walsh.

Reality TV's favourite villain celebrated the landmark birthday with 100 guests, and the guestlist that read more like attendees of a glitzy awards ceremony.

Louis Walsh said: "They had Simon Cowell wallpaper in the house and his face was in murals in the ceiling. We reckoned that it must have cost at least €1.5m to put it all together. I've never seen anything like that."

As guests entered the Wrotham Park venue, which hosted the lavish event, they were greeted by a huge 60ft image of Simon wishing him a happy birthday. Since Simon has become one of the most revered personalities on television, he has racked up impressive friendships with high fliers in the world of music, film and business. Coveted spots at the top table were given to Simon's mother Julie, fellow X Factor judge Cheryl Cole and Topshop mogul Philip Greene, accompanied by wife, Tina.

Tina is the woman responsible for organising the over-the-top bash and capitalised on Simon's notoriously self obsessed nature by placing pictures of the music mogul on virtually every object in the venue. Waiters even wore Simon Cowell masks and the tablecloths had pictures of his face.

Ex girlfriend Jackie St Claire joined in the teasing and gave him a present of a gift-wrapped mirror.

Other celebrities spotted were Naomi Campbell, Amanda Holden, Kevin Spacey, Gordon Ramsey and Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne.
