FROM today, independent Irish commercial TV stations will be allowed to broadcast up to 12 minutes of advertising per hour and to allocate up to 18pc of their time to ads each day.

The rise will represent an increase of 5pc over the previous limits. This follows the publication yesterday of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland's (BAI) revised Rules on Advertising and Teleshopping (Daily and Hourly Limits).

Stations including TV3, Setanta Ireland and City Channel were previously limited to 10 minutes of ads per hour, and up to 15pc of their total broadcast time over a day.
