Three sisters, three babies, one day - and another on the way
THREE sisters have each given birth on the same day.
The tiny tot cousins entered the world more like triplets as their mums gave birth only a few hours apart in Mayo General Hospital.
The babies arrived into the family on Tuesday, but it's not over yet - another new arrival is expected in the coming hours as a fourth sister is waiting to give birth.
Mairead Fitzpatrick, one of the sisters from Cloonfad on the Mayo-Roscommon border, said no one was expecting the multiple births on the same day.
"We just never realised it would all happen on the one day," she said. "I was the first one to go at 3.25am and then Jolene had her little girl, Sorcha, at 11am.
"Then Bernie's boy, Phelim, was born at 8.30pm."
Remarkably, a fourth sister, Christina Murray, was due to give birth last night.
Mairead told RTE that the two medical professionals who delivered her son also helped in the birth of Bernie's baby.
"So two women delivered two cousins in 24 hours," she said.
"Thomas Og is my first, it's Jolene's second, Bernie's third and Christina, this will be her fourth."
Mairead said the family were keeping their fingers crossed that Christina would give birth soon.
"It was just so funny the way it happened," she said.
"I was due last Friday. Jolene was actually sectioned, she was booked in for a section yesterday.
"Bernie was due today. Christina is still waiting for her little one - she was due to appear on Sunday."
