Star Wars figures and Pie Face top Smyth’s Christmas wish list

December 25 may be two months off, but parents have already begun the hunt for this year’s Christmas toys.

Smyth’s Toys is stocking up on what will be the most sought-after Christmas gifts this year.

Star Wars figures, robotic pet birds and a game that delivers a plate of whipped cream to the face of the unlucky recipient are among the favourites.

Figures from the new Star Wars film, The Force Awakens, such as Darth Vader, Chewbacca and Kylo Ren topped the list along with Star Wars Lego sets and video games.

“Star Wars is always going to be massive. There’s a lot of hype around it and the movies look incredible, so I think that hype is going to carry the toy range all the way up until December when the film is released,” said Rob Guckian, a spokesman for Smyths.

Another popular trend is the Toys-To-Life range which features physical toys that can be hooked up to games consoles and come to life on screen.

Physical

“It’s really innovative,” said Mr Guckian. “It’s combining the world of video games with the physical world of toys.”

Games include Skylanders, Disney Infinity, Nintendo Amiibo and Lego Dimensions.

Other toys on the list include Ski Scooter Z7, Little Live Pets Cleverkeet, a robotic bird that can talk, sing and dance and the Our Generation Hair Play Doll Phoebe, and radio-controlled Mario Karts.

Mr Guckian says the toys are for all girls and boys regardless of their gender. “We’d never segregate our toys. Every little girl and every little boy should be able to play with whatever toy they want,” he said.

The toys also range in price from €179.99 down to €28.49. One of the cheapest toys is Pie Face (€28.99), a game which challenges players to operate a handle without getting whipped cream in their face.

“We always try and accommodate for every budget and I think we’ve achieved it with this year’s top toy list. There’s something in there for everyone,” said Mr Guckian.

Smyths says parents should start now for the best chance of getting gifts they want.
