In the last few years, we have seen Chinese food slightly lose its appeal in favour of Thai food (pictured right), the popularity of which has surged, particularly in urban areas.

There are other niches beginning to emerge with more exotic cuisines such as Lebanese, African and even Mongolian food outlets.

Dublin leads the way in terms of choice, but we can see the other cities beginning to provide more cuisine types.

The long-term trends point to a move towards more adventurous flavours and healthier cooking methods.
