Hot summer of 1995 a standout moment
THE summer of 1995 was one of the hottest on record in Dublin and for one Herald reader it was also a summer of great memories.
Gerry Gorwan (62) chose the All-Ireland semi-final that year as his favourite summer photo memory.
This winning snap shows loyal Dub Gerry Gorwan and his son Gerry Jr with family friend Noel Mc Mullin on Dorset Street before the boys in blue clashed with Cork in the 1995 semi-final in Croker.
"It was a fantastic summer for football," Gerry said. "My slogan for that year was 'the hill is alive'."
Gerry Jr was just ten when the trio were captured with wide grins before the game.
"I don't even remember who took it now," said Gerry and added: "It's my favourite memory, that really was a great summer".
His son is 30 now with kids of his own and this weekend grandad Gerry is looking forward to bringing his two grandkids to their first ever match in Croker.
"My granddaughter Ellie Mae is eight and her brother Jack is only three so they have never been to a game before. It's great that I get to be the one to take them," said the Drumcondra native.
