Ren gets active with a techno-rad mix
REN founders Robert Calcraft and Antony Buck started out as brand consultants but when Antony’s wife developed reactions to almost every skincare product during her first pregnancy, the seed of an idea was planted.
The two men investigated the world of skincare and the more they learned the more interested they became, eventually leaving their consultancy careers to launch their own skincare range.
They believed that people shouldn’t have to choose between hi-tech effective skincare that was often full of chemicals and natural skincare that was old-fashioned and often ineffective. So they set about creating a range that would combine high-tech formulations with effective bio activities that were free from chemical nasties.
This ethos was Clean Bio Active Skincare, defined as “modern, sophisticated, effective, pleasurable-to-use products that are free from the skin-unfriendly ingredients routinely used in the skincare industry today” and the brand was REN.
After a difficult development period, REN was launched in 2000 and quickly earned a loyal following. The products are free from synthetic fragrance and colours, petrochemicals, propylene glycol, animal ingredients sulfates and parabens and vacuum packaging is used to reduce the requirement for preservatives to a minimum.
