Festive cards still sent by 30pc of us

IRELAND remains one of the best countries in the world when it comes to sending traditional Christmas cards, according to An Post.

Approximately 30pc of Irish people still go the extra mile and post Christmas cards despite the increase in sending e-cards.

"There's certainly a lot of activity on the digital media but card figures are still well up," said Angus Laverty of An Post. "People kind of do both -- they send facebook messages and do traditional cards as well."

A new survey by Ofcom found that 37 pc of UK adults had sent a greetings card, invitation or postcard in the last month - the highest rate in the world.

They were followed by Australia in second place at 34 pc. While Ireland was not included in the survey, An Post says that figures for here are very similar to Britain.
