Body and soul: Lydia Des Dolles - Singer

Singer Lydia Des Dolles.
Lydia (24) is from Waterford and is in the band Sweet Jane, which has been together for more than three years.
My parents were . . . so laid back, they have always let me do my own thing and have always been really supportive. They even let me move to London when I was 16.
The house I grew up in . . . was in Waterford. We lived in a housing estate until I was about 10 and then we moved to the countryside.
When I was a child I wanted to be . . . a vet or work with animals. When I was 15 or 16 I became interested in music and TV, and I did a college course in radio.
If I could change one thing about myself I would . . . probably try to learn to relax more.
You wouldn't know it but I'm very good at . . . swimming. I was a brilliant swimmer and I used to teach swimming when I was younger.
You may not know it but I'm no good at . . . dealing with people who have just been given bad news. I can be very awkward dealing with that kind of a situation; I never know what to say.
At night I dream of . . . our upcoming album, Sugar for my Soul, doing well.
When I look in the mirror I see . . . someone who is very ambitious and also needs to get her hair cut.
My favourite item of clothing is . . . a pair of grey, suede wedge boots. I tend to dress down when I'm on stage; nice dresses and heels don't really work.
I wish I'd never worn . . . an outfit that was a black silk 'curtain' of a top. I wore it once on stage and it was terrible. It had bat-wing sleeves and I wore it with black ski pants and black PVC boots.
I drive . . . nothing at the moment. When we're on tour we travel on a tour bus. I had one driving lesson with my dad but that did not work out very well.
My house is . . . an apartment in Portobello, near the city centre.
My favourite work of art . . . is anything by fashion designer Hannah Marshall. I think her dresses are works of art and I have a bit of an obsession with her designs!
A book that changed me . . . was Madonna's autobiography.
My greatest regret is . . . all my ex boyfriends.
My real-life villain is . . . boys in bands who are jealous and intimidated.
The person who really makes me laugh is . . . Danda from our band.
The last time I cried . . . was about two weeks ago when I was in my parents' house and had to say goodbye to my cat Wednesday.
My five-year plan is . . . to make two albums and have two tours with the band. I would like to have a bit more money too, and a number-one album would be nice.
My life philosophy is . . . that karma gets everyone in the end.
Sweet Jane will be supporting Power of Dreams in Whelan's, on Friday, March 12. www.whelanslive.com www.myspace.com/officialsweetjane
