Facebook must face questions

IT has the makings of a David versus Goliath battle. A father is taking on social network giant, Facebook, after sexually suggestive pictures of his 12-year-old daughter appeared on the site.

What's particularly troubling here is that the child is alleged to have posted the pictures herself.

And that's what she is -- a child.

Even if she didn't suffer the kind of problems which her father says require her to have counselling, a 12- year-old can have little concept of the danger she is putting herself in by making public such pictures.

But surely the adults behind Facebook should.

Yes, of course parents should be monitoring what their children are doing on the web.

But media organisations, and indeed any other business, have to be accountable for how it is used.
