David Gillick celebrates wife's pregnancy and first cookbook
It's double joy for David Gillick as he has launched his first cookbook and he is also expecting his first child with his wife, Charlotte.
The couple recently celebrated their first wedding anniversary and are set to welcome their first child early next year.
"We're absolutely delighted and all is going well to date so fingers crossed for the New Year," he told the Herald.
"It's really exciting times at the moment."
Since appearing on celebrity MasterChef, Mr Gillick has embraced the kitchen and says he's the one who wears the apron at home.
"I do all the cooking in the house, I enjoy it but she's made more dinners this week than me to be fair," he said.
"We always try to sit down at the kitchen table for dinner.
"I wanted to eat in front of the TV but she got her way and she introduced a ban on phones at the table too which we still stick to," he added.
The former track and field athletics ace launched his book, David Gillick's Kitchen at a bash in Dubray Books on Grafton Street last night.
While other cookbooks will have you running for the local health food store, David's recipes are based on readily-available ingredients.
"When it comes to health and well-being, it's a bit of a minefield," he said.
"One week people are telling you not to eat this and then it's something else a few days later.
"My point of view is that for people to buy into a healthy lifestyle it has to be practical.
"For my recipes you can get the ingredients down in the local shop and they're simple to make but also very tasty and nutritious," he added.
The 32-year-old has been doing regular appearances on TV3's Seven O'Clock Show and says he would love to feature more on the small screen.
"I really enjoy it and now that I have 90 recipes ready to go so I'd love to do more TV," he said.
