Employers beware. Half of Irish brides-to-be spend up to three hours each week planning their weddings instead of concentrating on work.

According to a new survey from wedding website confetti.ie, 50pc of women surveyed admitted to using the internet in the office to research and book various aspects of their wedding.

And employers looking over their shoulders will see the would-be bride surfing the net to organise everything from accessories to the honeymoon.

And despite the onslaught of the recession, today's Bridezillas are spending more than ever before on their big day at the altar. The average bride surveyed earns between €20,000 and €29,000, but it doesn't stop them from forking out the same amount on the wedding of their dreams.

Recession or no recession, the wedding industry is one area that won't suffer from tightened belts. In fact, one third of couples extend the celebrations by organising an engagement party.

Today's brides may be modern women, but in 87pc of cases it's still the man who pops the question. However, 12pc of couples revealed they had made their decision together.

And despite claims that men have no involvement in the preparations, more than half of Irish brides admitted they would be lost without the groom's help.
