When the time travellers arrive in 16th century Venice strange things are afoot. As the Doctor tries to deal with the threat posed by a group of beautiful vampires (below), he crosses swords with the mysterious Rosanna Calvierri who is turning every young buxom beauty into a blood sucker.

Although it continues its winning ratings run, BGT has been something of an anticlimax this year. The only really memorable acts so far have been the faultless gymnastics group Spellbound and shy singing accountant Christopher Stone. What we need at this stage is a new Susan Boyle.

i'm in a rock'n'roll band! BBC2, 9.45pm

The volume's cranked up a notch as we take a head-banging look at the backbone of any successful rock band -- the guitarist. With a rich and varied selection of clips from the archives, a huge cast of strummers such as Jeff Beck, Johnny Marr, Slash and The Who's Pete Townshend take a rollicking ride through some of the all-time great guitar riffs.

Along came polly UTV, 10.20pm

Proving opposites really do attract, Ben Stiller plays the role of an uptight risk analyst who falls for the sultry charms of freewheeling wild child Jennifer Aniston. However, their starkly different personalities create problems of their own. Lightweight but watchable.
