all this and footie, too...

SOUTH Africa will be playing host to a different kind of 'big game' from June 11 when the World Cup kicks off in Johannesburg. This is the first time that the competition is to be held in Africa and, with a worldwide audience in the billions, there'll be no shortage of interest in the world's premier football competition.

However, due to the distance -- Cape Town is a 12-hour flight from Heathrow -- tourism numbers are not expected to be as high as when the competition is held in locations closer to Europe.

Due to this, hotels in South African host cities are beginning to offer packages including accommodation and match tickets. The five-star Bay Hotel in Camps Bay, a 15-minute drive from the Cape Town Stadium, is offering various packages including: three nights' accommodation in the hotel and tickets for the Uruguay v France game on June 11 from R6,615pps (€689); Italy v Paraguay on June 14 from R5,810pps (€610) and England v Algeria on June 18 from R7720pps (€804).

Last 16 accommodation and tickets start from R6,625pps (€691) with the matches played on June 29, while quarter-final packages, with the game on July 3 start from R7,720pps (€804).
