The Biggest Loser UK and Ireland

TV3, 9.30pm Davina McCall hosts a brand new series of the weight-loss programme in which 14 overweight contestants from the UK and Ireland travel to Leicestershire in a bid to shed the pounds and be crowned the Biggest Loser. Tonight sees the challenges begin as the new gang set up home at the Biggest Loser house.

BBC1, 9pm A new three-part drama from Tony Marchant starring Anna Friel (left) and Daniel Mays, Public Enemies focuses on the prison release of Eddie, a 28-year-old murderer who has spent a decade behind bars and, with the help of his troubled probation officer, tries to settle back into his old community.

BBC2, 8pm Chris Packham takes a look at the more bizarre natural events to have occurred around the world, and, with the help of eye-witness accounts and scientists, tries to figure out why they happened in the first place. We're talking exploding toads and plagues of locusts here . . .

Accused: The 74-Stone Babysitter

Channel 4, 9pm Mayra Rosales weighed almost 500kg and was bed-ridden when her two-year-old nephew was beaten to death under her watch in 2008. She confessed to the crime and was charged with his murder. This documentary examines the unusual case, featuring interviews with the doctors and lawyers involved, as well as Mayra and her family.
