Take Me Out couple split within hours

The first couple put together on TV3's new dating show Take Me Out split up just hours after they met.

Ruairi Gilna (24) from Dublin told the Herald that he had never expected to meet the girl of his dreams on the TV programme, although he did have fun with his date and fellow participant Sarah Courtney.

"We were sent to Shifters [an area made to look like a nightclub in the studio] for our date, it was really awkward, to be honest, especially with the cameras for the first half an hour," the personal trainer told the Herald.

"Then I stayed for another hour or two chatting away and seeing how everyone else got on.

"We only got in touch again when the show aired last Friday, Sarah was happy at how well we all came across."

While Ruairi did not hit it off with the only girl who still had her light on when he admitted that fitness was "his life", the Cabinteely native did not remain unattached for very long, as he is now seeing a model.

Ruairi admitted that he had already been on one date with the 26-year-old beauty when he filmed the first episode of Take Me Out on September 29, but he assured the Herald that his current girlfriend knew his intentions to take part in the show.

"I told her I was going to be on Take Me Out and she thought it was hilarious," the Finglas-based fitness instructor said.

Ruairi said that he did not regret his stint on television although he did think that a lot of the girls had been quite harsh to him because he was the first male contestant.

"It was like going out to a firing squad, it was quite overwhelming, but after five minutes it started being fun."
