In the first episode he investigates the life and gruesome death of one of the most important characters of the 16th Century, the flamboyant Silken Thomas – a young Kildare nobleman who was tricked into rebellion against Henry VIII in 1535.
ALEX POLIZZI: CHEFS ON TRIAL
New series. MasterChef meets The Apprentice as Alex Polizzi takes on the challenge of finding new head chefs for restaurants that have a desperate need to fill a vacancy. Over four nights, she offers up a total of nine candidates who are put through a rigorous interview and testing process, with only the very best making it through to the final. She begins her search at The Gilpin in the Lake District, a fine dining establishment whose family owners want to find a new executive head chef who will care as much about the business as they do.
48 HOURS IN MARRAKECH
Richard Ayoade is joined by comedy actor Stephen Mangan for a weekend in the Moroccan city. Wanting to experience its famous street food, the pair sample a local delicacy of steamed sheep’s head – an eye-opening culinary experience for them both. They then take a hot-air balloon flight over the Atlas Mountains with breathtaking views, watch a traditional story-telling performance and visit the historic Saadian tombs, as well as Marrakech’s ancient tanneries. Finally, in search of a suitable place to sum up the holiday experience, they head into the desert for a contemplative camel ride.
MASTERCHEF: THE FINALS
THE five remaining hopefuls enter the last week – four nights of culinary challenges after which one of them will be crowned MasterChef Champion. They begin by cooking a five-course dinner in memory of Winston Churchill at Cambridge University’s Churchill College, trying to replicate a menu devised by leading chef Michael Caines. After that it’s back to the kitchen to produce a dish inspired by a personal hero.
