Stand-up queen Joanne McNally to replace Jennifer Maguire on Republic
Stand-up comedian Joanne McNally is to replace Jennifer Maguire on RTE 2's comedy series The Republic of Telly.
McNally is best known for touring with PJ Gallagher as part of acclaimed stage show "Separated at Birth".
Filming for the upcoming series of Republic has already started and the producers have thrown Joanne in the deep end. "I've already been painted bright green and squished into various wigs and uncomfortable situations," Joanne said.
Earlier this year, Jennifer Maguire (inset) announced she was leaving the show after seven years.
"The show is back, but I won't be back," she said.
"I've done it for seven years. It was very hard to say it - it was a very tough decision, but I won't be back for this season."
Instead, new mum Jennifer and comedian Bernard O'Shea are working on spin off series Bridget and Eamon, which follows the "quintessential Irish couple".
Kevin McGahern will return as Republic of Telly host.
In the first episode, which airs on October 19, Joanne takes on the role of Agent Starling in a pastiche of Silence of the Lambs entitled Silence of the Buns.
Joanne has previously appeared in short films and stage shows including Singlehood and The Commute.
