Robert Sheehan: I'm 'baffled' by Love/Hate remake in Hawaii

ROBERT Sheehan was "baffled" to hear that gangland drama Love/Hate was set for sunnier climes with a remake based in Hawaii.

"I hadn't heard that," the actor who played ill-fated heart-throb gangster Darren, told the Herald.

"I think it could work. I know Hawaii has a pretty serious meth problem so it has the backdrop," he said.

"Sometimes, with these remakes, they are a carbon copy of a show at home, and it begs the question: why make it at all?" he added.

The RTE drama has reportedly been picked up by the Showtime network for the US remake.

Sheahan says he still gets recognised as Darren.

"I feel like I'm kind of the new JR because people are like 'Darren, I thought you were dead'," he joked.

Terror

Now based in LA, the former Misfits star says he misses Ireland.

Robert was back in town with director Gren Wells (inset) to attend the red carpet premiere of The Road Within - in which he plays a Tourette's sufferer - as part of the Jameson International Film Festival.

"With a film like this the terror is that you're going to f*ck it up and misrepresent an illness a lot of people suffer with. It would be unforgivable," he said.

Hollywood bible Variety has complimented his performance - and US accent - in the new movie.
