Rising TV series Rebellion is picked up by US TV giant

RTE's upcoming series Rebellion looks set to go global after being picked up by a US channel.

The five-part series based on the events of the Easter Rising will be broadcast in the States on digital channel Sundance TV, which is owned by broadcasting giants AMC Networks.

Sundance TV has joined the production of the hotly-anticipated show, which stars a host of Irish acting talent including Love/Hate co-stars Brian Gleeson and Charlie Murphy (inset) and tells the story of the rising through the eyes of three young women.

Sundance TV's president of programming Joel Stillerman said the station picked up Rebellion as they believe the issues in the historical show are relevant to modern US audiences.

"[Rebellion] underscores our commitment to showcasing unique voices from around the globe," he told Variety. "We believe the struggles and triumphs seen throughout the series will resonate strongly with audiences."
