Review: Round one is entertaining but Pat Kenny is no Piers Morgan
Hard-hitting inteviewer Pat Kenny left his current affairs hat behind and tried on a new look - as Ireland's answer to Piers Morgan.
The Round Room in Dublin's Mansion House proved an intimate setting for Pat's return to a one-on-one chat show format.
The broadcaster smoothly took the audience through the key moments in the life of his guest - enigmatic Tyrone manager Mickey Harte.
He teased out the highs in the early days of gaelic football management on to winning three All Ireland Finals, and then to the desperate lows of the tragic deaths of his beloved daughter Michaela on her honeymoon, and Tyrone footballer Cormac McAnallen.
Harte is a man of strong faith and equally strong will and he warmed to Kenny's interview style. He produced a treasured memento - a note of predictions written by his late daughter back before Tyrone's footballing glory days.
But alas the interview still seemed to be lacking in something that made it truly personal. While it's not that In the Round wasn't entertaining, it ended feeling as though there were some questions left unasked. It was the same old Pat - minus the heat from the grill.
Although the studio was remarkably similar to Piers Morgan's Life Stories - when it comes to in-depth chat shows, Pat is more like Piers Lite.
