His ever-supportive wife Georgina (33) has been cheering him on from the sidelines of the BBC show every weekend, along with their cute twin boys Rocco and Jay (5).
She revealed to the Herald how she couldn't be more proud of the star as he gets to grips with all the intricate dance-steps on the hit show -- which often trounces X Factor in the ratings, pulling in up to 12m viewers every week.
"I'm heading off again for the weekend and he's doing great and working hard. Of course I'm very proud and I know I'm a lucky girl," she said. "He's a hot dancer, hot hubby and a hot dad!"
However, she was staying cautiously optimistic when it came to how she rated his chances of winning the competition overall, given that it reaches its mid-way stages this weekend.
"I think he has the potential alright and he works hard. But there are great contestants on it so we'll take one week at a time," she said.
This weekend will see Nicky and Karen doing a Charleston dance in a bid to say in the competition, following on from dancing a jive the previous week.
Yesterday the former Westlifer lent his dance partner Karen Haurer to another suave Irishman, Marty Whelan, to launch a charity version of Strictly Come Dancing in Ireland.
The elegant Miss Hauer joined RTE veteran Marty at the Liffey Trust Dance Studios on Sheriff Street in Dublin.
For one night only, Marty will be on hand to introduce 13 couples who will dance to the salsa, jive, foxtrot, rumba, and waltz.
The 58-year-old will be the host on the Strictly night in aid of The Ross Nugent Foundation at the Wright Venue in Swords, Co Dublin on December 7.
