Mary stumbles into new TV role ...on Anonymous

FAMOUS: Tesco singer unwittingly pops up on RTE show

SHE'S best known for her jaw-dropping performances on The X Factor but it looks like Dublin finalist Mary Byrne has unwittingly landed herself another TV gig.

The Herald can reveal how the Ballyfermot-born singer, dubbed the new SuBo, could soon be popping up in an episode of RTE's Anonymous after stumbling across the TV cameras during a visit home yesterday.

The Tesco checkout assistant was back on home turf for the day and was determined to make the most of her time off by browsing through the shops on Grafton Street. What 50-year-old Mary wasn't expecting however was to be nabbed by comedian Jason Byrne and his latest celeb protege, who were filming the popular series in the city centre at the time.

"Naturally Mary's presence on the street created quite a stir and she had lots of fans over wishing her well and congratulating her on her success," said an onlooker.

"The Anonymous gang just happened to be filming nearby and couldn't miss the opportunity to get a few words with her so it looks like she'll be making a brief appearance on the show."

MaBy and her fellow contestants were given the day off yesterday after the popular Dublin contestant last week told producers she was nearing exhaustion.

She is due back in the UK for a series of gruelling rehearsals today, ahead of Saturday night's much anticipated live show.

A hit with the public, the talented singer is also being heavily backed by Mayo judge Louis Walsh, who believes she has what it takes to go all the way and win the show.
