'I want to work in TV' - former Rose of Tralee Maria Walsh
She's settling into life after the Rose of Tralee, but Maria Walsh isn't quite ready to give up the limelight and wants a future in TV and radio.
The former Rose (inset) has decided to stay in Ireland instead of moving back to the States since handing over her crown.
After signing with top talent agency NK Management - the same company that represents former rose Aoibheann Ni Shuilleabhain - she's hoping to break into broadcasting. "I would love to do presenting, documentaries and [being a] social entrepreneur has always been a part of me.
"If I could find that and marry it into a media platform then that would be amazing, but I am looking at all sorts, not just TV but radio and writing," she said.
Although the pretty brunette is a household name since winning the competition in 2014, she doesn't consider herself to be a celebrity.
"I wouldn't use the word celebrity to describe myself. I am from Shrule in Mayo, far from celebrity status," she told RSVP magazine.
"I respect it, if people come up to me on the street, they know me from the Rose of Tralee, but it is more 'Are you who we think you are?'."
