'I took some grief for relationship with Harry Styles, says TV star Caroline Flack
X Factor host Caroline Flack has lifted the lid on her friendship with Britain's Prince Harry, as well as revealing how she was branded a "paedophile" and had a voodoo doll made of her by One Direction fans after she began dating Harry Styles.
In her autobiography, Storm In A C Cup, Flack (35) wrote of the difficulties of being thought of as the Prince's "bit of rough" after it emerged they had grown close.
In the book, Flack described how she met Harry on a night out in 2009 through a mutual friend after she had split from a boyfriend.
She said they "spent the evening chatting and laughing", but "once the story got out, that was it. We had to stop seeing each other".
"I was no longer Caroline Flack, TV presenter, I was Caroline Flack, Prince Harry's bit of rough," she said.
Flack, who with Olly Murs took over hosting duties for the current series of the X Factor from Dermot O'Leary, also described how she shocked fans when she began dating One Direction's Harry Styles two years later.
Despite the age gap - she was 31, he only 17 - she said she was flattered that he had a "crush" on her, which he had made "pretty obvious".
"It was flattering and I found it amusing," she said. "He was a kind of cheeky man/boy with a captivating smile who got what he wanted."
The pair hid their romance from Simon Cowell as they both worked for him at the time, and Flack described their relationship as "a bit of fun".
"We were both single, we got on well and we had a laugh," she said.
But things turned sour when Styles was spotted leaving her house one morning, and people began calling her a "pervert" and "paedophile" in the street.
Flack, who last year won Strictly Come Dancing, described how a One Direction fan magazine portrayed her with a voodoo doll, while another fan on Twitter threatened to shoot her.
"There was a moment when we just thought, s***, this is dark.
"So perhaps we did the wrong thing, who knows," she said.
